Travel Tips - GECU Debit and Credit Cards

GECU's always on the job when it comes to protecting you and your debit and credit card transactions from fraudulent activity.
 
Whether you're at home or traveling, GECU's transaction monitoring system is designed to help detect out of the ordinary spending patterns and unusual activity. 
 
You could help us with these easy steps:
1.    Call GECU in advance of your travel plans toll-free at 1.800.772.4328 or          1.800.442.4757 to let us know your plans.
2.    Provide GECU with your cell phone number.  That way we could contact you           wherever you are to verify flagged transactions or unusual activity.
 
Remember that GECU has more than 28,000 surcharge free ATMs as part of our ATM Co-op Network nationwide to serve you.

 In addition, you can monitor your accounts on GECU’s Online Banking and with GECU Mobile Apps 24:7.   Contact GECU immediately if you notice any unusual activity.

New GECU Banking Hours (Effective Nov 2, 2012):

New Friday Branch Hours
  • Beginning November 2, 2012, GECU Branches and SmartCall will now close each Friday at 5pm.

 

  • GECU’s Drive-thru facilities will close at 6:30pm.

Night Depository
  • Offered at most GECU branches, here’s an easy way to make deposits and loan payments before and after hours.*
 
  • *Night depositories are not available at our Horizon, Downtown Branches and Airway Drive-thru. Please refer to Terms and Conditions for posting deposits and payments to your account(s).
 
GECU ATMs – Open 24/7
  • With over 16 GECU ATMs around El Paso, you can make withdrawals, transfer money between GECU accounts or request your account balance. 
 
GECU Montwood Personal Teller Machines (PTMs)
  • Located at 12400 Montwood Dr., GECU PTMs are available Monday through Friday 8am to 8pm and Saturday 10am to4pm. Make payments, deposits, withdraw money, cash checks, transfer funds between GECU accounts or ask for your account balance.

There are three ways you can manage your accounts with GECU Mobile Apps:

Text Us

Need to know your balance, transfer funds or check your latest transactions? Text us, we'll text you back. All you need is a mobile phone with texting capabilities.

  • Activating GECU Mobile texting is easy
    Log in to gecu-ep.org, go to the GECU Mobile Apps tab and follow the activation instructions.

If your smart phone has internet service, simply log on to gecu-ep.org. That's it! No enrollment is necessary. You can check balances, your latest transactions or deposits, transfer funds between GECU accounts, and pay your bills.

You can download your iPhone or Android App
iPhone – go to your iPhone App Store online, type in gecu then download GECU's Mobile Apps.
Android – Open the Android Market page, type in GECU Mobile or gecu in the search bar and press enter. When the GECU Mobile App icon appears, click and download.

If you've already downloaded your iPhone or Android App and you're unable to access the gecu-ep.org, it may be that your registered password is more than 8 characters long. To change your password, log in to gecu-ep.org, go to the User Options tab at the top right of the gecu-ep.org home page and follow the instructions to change your password to no more than 8 characters.

GECU Mobile has added three new features to help make managing your money easier when you’re on the go:

- Transfer funds
- Low balance alerts
- Adding a second phone line

Adding them to your text commands is easy. Here’s how:

Click the GECU Mobile Apps alerts tab

For transfer funds

o Select transfer source account

o Press submit

o Text TRANS followed by a dollar amount (example: TRANS 200). We’ll transfer money from your transfer source account to your primary account.

Low balance alerts

o Select low balance alert

o Select the dollar amount from the drop-down field

o Press submit

o You’ll receive a low balance alert when your primary account falls below that dollar amount

Setting up two phones for the same primary account

o Select activate another phone

o Complete the two-step process

o Press submit

And, don’t forget these text commands:

BAL = Primary account balance

BAL ALL = All account balances

BAL CHK = Checking account balances

LAST = Last 5 transactions

We may need to reset your password.
- Call us at 915-778-9221.
- Ask us to reset your password.
- Log back into SmartBranch.
- Create a new password.

Easier Than Ever To Manage Your Money

GECU is making it easier to manage your money and checking account by processing your MasterMoney debit card signature (credit) transactions at the time each transaction is made.

How will it work?
For example:
- You make a purchase using your MasterMoney debit card.
- When asked if you'll be using your MasterMoney card as a credit or debit, you tell the cashier it will be a credit.
- When the amount of your purchase is approved and you sign for it, that amount will be placed on hold in your checking account immediately.
- The amount of the purchase will remain on hold until the transaction clears your account.

This also means less confusion when you balance your checking account.

Will this affect MasterMoney debit card and ATM transactions using your PIN (Personal Identification Number)?
No, your funds are already taken out of your account immediately.
